The town of Temagami, about seven miles north of us, offers you souvenir shopping, banking, a laundromat, several restaurants, a hardware store, a grocery store, a beer and liquor store, a library, a medical clinic, an ambulance service to out-of-town hospitals, and a Farmer's Market every Saturday with live music. Airplane sightseeing tours are also available from Lakeland Airways who run float-planes from Lake Temagami.

This district is rich in things to do outside. Provincial parks, hiking trails, an old growth forest and a high tower to climb... so many ways to satisfy your outdoorsy side.

Marten River Provincial Park features a replica 19th century logging camp, Lumberjack Days festival, and hiking trails that take you through transition forest and the remnants of old growth pine. To learn more, visit the Marten River Provincial Park webpage.

The White Bear Forest was declared a conservation reserve on July 4, 1997. Of the known remaining stands of old-growth white pine forest, White Bear Forest is the sixth largest. One of the unique things about this forest is that you don't need to hike into a remote area or be flown many miles to explore its depths. It is perhaps one of the most easily accessible of the remaining large stands of old-growth pine. It consists of 1242 hectares of old-growth forest with hiking trails that begin just east of Temagami. Finlayson Point Provincial Park is located 1 km south of the town of Temagami, situated on Lake Temagami. Offering access to Lake Temagami and the Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Wilderness Park, Finlayson Point serves as a base for boating, fishing and hiking expeditions. A small museum features displays of historic logging artifacts, old tools, and locally found fossils and minerals. To find out more, visit the Finlayson Point Provincial Park webpage.

The Ferguson Mountain Trail begins the north end of Lake Temagami near Sandy Inlet, and can also be accessed by water or from the Red Squirrel Road. This trail includes a climb up Ferguson Mountain to a height of 123 meters. Maple Mountain and the Ishpatina Ridge (Ontario's highest point) are visible from the summit. The Temagami Fire Tower stands 100 feet tall on the summit of Caribou Mountain, 400 feet above the town and 1300 feet above sea level. It is the highest point on Highway 11.
